Freedom of Space.

I just happened up on the website of one Mr. Tim Irwin and was pleasantly surprised to find a site full of amazing visuals, including a trailer for his independent film that he made with Steve Olpin called “Freedom of Space: Skateboard Culture and the Public Space.”  Watch the clip and make sure you have your board close because you’ll definitely want to go skate after viewing.  This is the type of thing that I love to find on the internets.

We just got this in our inbox, so we’re passing it along.  We’ll get you links to trailers when we get them.

“Kyle Mattingly is making an independent film made up from the youngsters of the Louisville scene, with a wide variety of different styles and kids. Some of the skaters include George Barnett, Kolton Nelson, Blake Applegate, Zach from ATL, and many more. Video dropping sometime this fall. Many promos coming soon. Lets see if this video will be out sooner than later.”

I would suggest doing so. I took time to make a list of reasons:

-Mark Stewart and RJ Hess post videos/updates regularly
-Better-than-youtube quality videos
-They go to cool places like Raleigh and NYC.

Looks like Dave Ackels is at it again.  More cats, more backyard bowls, and more amazing quotes coming out of the mouths of the citizens of Southern Ohio in his latest worked entitled That Was Ill?

Dang yo, how come no one told me the new HiFi Wheels website was up and running?  Apparently they’ve got a promo premiering on their site April 15th, which may or may not feature footage filmed by someone you know (and/or hate).

It’s always good to see friends doing good things.  I just noticed that Ryan McKowen got a portfolio website up and running with a nice demo reel and some of his artwork.  Good things coming out of Pittsburgh by way of West Virginia.

The Instruction and Beer!

When we asked The Instruction if they’d like to contribute music for the forthcoming video from theProgram, they jumped all over it and new connections and friendships were made.  Oh, you haven’t heard The Instruction yet?  Well, as luck would have it, they’re playing TONIGHT (3/27/09) at the Louisville Brewfest at 7 pm.  Cheap beer, cheap food, and great live music all in one location.  And yes, the U of L game will be on all the TV’s at the venue, so that’s no excuse.  See you there.

Portland, Tortoise, and Ben Krahn?  I’m in.  Check out this trailer for Rip City, a documentary that follows 7 skateboarders in the Portland, Oregon area.

After months of dragging our feet about it, we finally sat down and got the archived issues of the zine up and running.  It’s kinda funny to look back at the earlier issues and just how much we DIDN’T know about putting together a project like this.  It’s also cool to see the evolution of the zine over the years and realize just how far we’ve come in such a short period of time.  Have a look and try not to laugh too hard at the early issues and their horrid appearances.

While sifting through the particulars for the site, I noticed that we were getting some traffic coming from a site called Poking The World With a Stick.  Turns out it’s none other than Mr. Case Mahan’s blog on Tumblr.  And, as you might expect from that stylish devil, there’s loads of great content over there.  Case, you should’ve told me about this a long time ago, you chode.
